If your tooth is damaged, Dr. Jaby Paul may recommend a dental crown to restore its appearance, function and strength.
What Is a Dental Crown?
Dental crowns (also known as “caps”) are versatile restorations used to restore damaged teeth. Crowns are custom-made to fit your teeth and smile perfectly, covering the entire visible portion of the teeth. While they may be made of several different materials, porcelain crowns are particularly popular as they match the natural color and appearance of your teeth.
When Are Crowns Recommended?
Our dentist may recommend a dental crown to:
- Restore and protect a damaged, broken or weakened tooth
- Protect a tooth after a root canal
- Anchor and attach a dental bridge
- Cover and complete a dental implant
- Improve the appearance of a misshapen tooth
- Support a tooth with a large filling and little remaining natural tooth structure
The Dental Crown Process
Dental crowns usually require two appointments to complete. At the first appointment your tooth will be prepared to receive the crown and impressions made. A temporary crown will be provided to protect the tooth until the final crown is ready. At the second appointment our dentist will check that your crown fits properly before bonding it into place.
