Our doctors use digital X-rays when examining your teeth and mouth, whether for your routine dental checkup or to assess of a specific problem. X-rays help us identify developing problems and ensure your treatment plan meets your unique needs.
What Are Digital X-Rays?
Digital X-rays are one of the diagnostic tools we use to provide your care here at Rockland Pediatric Dental and Orthodontics. Digital X-rays have changed the imaging process dramatically. Unlike film radiography, which is a time-consuming process and requires the use of chemicals to develop photos, digital X-rays use small digital sensors to capture images and immediately transmit them to monitors in the treatment room, giving you a faster, more comfortable and more efficient imaging process. These images are highly detailed, allowing our doctors to make more accurate diagnoses and provide you with more precise care. Most importantly, digital X-ray technology requires 90% less radiation than traditional X-rays.
When Are Digital X-Rays Used?
Digital X-rays are used to diagnose and treat a wide range of dental problems, including:
- Cavities, including decay between the teeth
- Developmental abnormalities
- Cysts, abscesses and tumors
- Improper tooth or root positioning
- Fractures of teeth or existing restorations
- Infection
- Bone loss
Our doctors may also use them to plan oral surgery procedures, adult and child root canals, dental implants, orthodontic care and more.
Are Digital X-Rays Safe?
Yes! Digital X-rays are very safe, and actually produce up to 90% less radiation than traditional film X-rays – less than what you are exposed to daily by the sun. Additionally, our team follows all safety procedures and guidelines, including the use of lead aprons and having our X-ray equipment inspected regularly to ensure safety and accuracy.
